The Story
It Started With a Layoff — and a Lot of Callbacks
In 2008, the financial crash took Mike's engineering job. After six months of figuring out what came next, he enrolled in the HVAC/R program at Coyne College in Chicago — and found that working hands-on with refrigeration and cooling systems was the most fun he'd ever had in a classroom. He earned his EPA certification and never looked back.
Mike went to work at a small HVAC supply house with a service team operating out of the back. At a company that size, you do everything: working the counter, learning every product on the shelves, and running service calls alongside the techs. He learned the trade inside and out.
And he learned the trade's most frustrating problem: callbacks for refrigerant leaks.

Like most techs, Mike's team saw leak sealants as snake oil. But after spending hours hunting a leak with soap bubbles and coming up empty, sometimes a sealant was the only option left.
The products back then earned their bad reputation. They were complicated to install — you had to pressurize cans and inject through hoses. Some literally exploded when connected to 410A systems. And even when everything went right, it was a coin flip whether the leak sealed... or the sealant gummed up the system.
