Comercial

How do Leak Saver refrigerant leak sealants work?
  • Leak Saver leak sealants work similarly to the blood in your body. For example, under normal circumstances, the blood flows normally throughout the body. If an injury is present (a leak), a blood clot will occur to seal the leak and prevent further blood loss.

  • When there is a leak, the active ingredient will react with air and moisture at the leak site to form a permanent seal. The sealant is designed to activate specifically with ambient moisture and oxygen. We recommend thinking of the sealant as a two-part epoxy. The injected component being one part, with the ambient moisture and oxygen being the second part, or catalyst. This chemistry is designed to seal the leak from the outside in, rather than the inside out. This eliminates the opportunity for the sealant to harden inside of the system.  Any remaining active ingredient will remain in the system to seal future leaks.

  • Also, just like the blood in your body, the Leak Saver can only seal small refrigerant leaks. As a rule of thumb, if the entire refrigerant charge does not leak out in 7 days, the Leak Saver can seal the leak. Leaks that are too big (refrigerant leaks out in under 7 days) may need to be sealed by finding the leak and brazing it.

  • We are often asked if our product will contaminate a system and harden inside. For the reasons mentioned above, it will not.

  • We claim our sealant to be 90% effective. In actuality, the sealant is effective 100% of the time. We claim 90%, due to variables that are outside of the sealants capabilities. Some examples of these are formicary corrosion, general rust or thinning of coil walls, or penetrations such as nail punctures. In many cases a nail puncture is buried in a wall of floor. Over time, vibrations will work the nail loose causing a new leak. The sealant will repair the leak until further vibration reintroduces the leak. In the case of formicary corrosion or thinning of the coil walls, the sealant will repair the leak. Other areas of the coil are also weak. The system head pressure will rise, and a new leak will break through. This can continue until the leak is too large for the sealant to work.
What makes Leak Saver different than other leak sealants?

With more than 4 million units sold of our formula since 2015 and thousands of positive public reviews, we are the most trusted sealant on the market today. Our products are used daily by HVAC professionals in the field. Also, our installation method is straightforward enough to be used by DIYers.

When should you NOT use a leak sealant?
  • Leak Saver works best for small refrigerant leaks where the entire refrigerant charge does not leak out in 7 days. If the entire charge leaks out in under 7 days, the leak may be too big.

  • For large leaks, we recommend injecting a Leak Saver that has UV dye included. If the leak is not sealed, the added UV dye can help you find the leak. Additionally, you can inject the Leak Saver UV Dye only product if you don’t want to use sealant. After finding the leak, you will need to braze it closed.
